Symptoms: At the Doctor’s Office

When visiting a physician to have your throat examined, the diagnostic procedures used to check your tonsils and adenoids follows a process that is intended to gather as much information as possible to make an accurate diagnosis. This process will generally take into consideration your symptoms, answers to specific questions and include some or all of the following steps:

  • Your medical history
  • A physical examination
  • Throat cultures and/or a Strep test
  • CT-Scan or MRI – if necessary
  • Blood tests

Your physician may also ask about and examine other areas besides your throat that can include the ear and nose as well as your head and neck.
