After surgery, the restrictions placed upon a patient generally are minimal. The most important one is the need to avoid getting water in the ear. Where drainage tubes have been placed into the ear it may take from several weeks to several months for the Eustachian tube to become normal. Water in the ear should be avoided entirely during this time since it could reintroduce an infection. Additionally, making sure all antibiotics are taken for the full length of time prescribed by the doctor is very important. Follow-up appointments to check on a patient’s progress are generally predetermined by your doctor.
