CO2 laser surgery may be used in nasal airway surgery to open a blocked nose from enlarged turbinate bones (Turbinectomy) and a deviated septum (Septoplasty). It is also used to help to alleviate snoring and for cosmetic procedures. Nasal airway surgery is done through the nostrils without the need for any external incisions. To find out if CO2 laser surgery is appropriate for your condition ask your physician.
Ask your doctor about CO2 Laser Surgery and how it can help you.
This procedure is performed to reduce or eliminate a deformity of the nasal septum involving the ‘spur’ which causes reduced or restricted airflow through the nose. The septum can be deviated at birth (congenital) or because of injury, such as a broken nose. It may also bend to one side as a result of aging. Septoplasty generally is necessary only when breathing problems or snoring do not get better without surgery.
This procedure surgically removes an abnormally enlarged turbinate bone from inside the nose to improve breathing. When the procedure is not part of another sinus operation, it is usually performed under local anesthesia.
Nasal polyps often plug the nose, usually one side at a time trapping mucus that can eventually get infected, produce pain and fever, and perhaps bloody discharge. A nasal polypectomy is performed in an office setting by an otolaryngologist to remove the polyps.
Rhinoplasty is used to correct the shape or profile of the nose as well as disease related disfigurements of the nose. In particular, it is used to correct Rhinophyma, the formation of an enlarged, red nose that can be disfigured with lumps. Rhinophyma is generally regarded as a severe form of rosacea a condition that causes very red facial complexions.
